Living Better, Longer

Congratulations to Our Member of the month ...
Marilyn Fournier

I have been a member at Exertec for about 10 years. I’ve enjoyed my membership and made many friends over the years. I would consistently come on my days off from work and worked out in minimal fashion just so I could tell myself that I work out.

In December 2005, my little grandson died in an accident, 3 weeks before his third birthday. I went into a deep mourning state for about 14 months. I rarely exercised and put on 20 lbs. I basically lost my zest for everything. In January 2007, I decided to join the “Be Lean” program at Exertec. I felt I had to make some major changes to get my life back on track. I followed the program, learned how to make better food choices and slowly took off the weight. I have now exceeded my weight loss goal and have lost 27 lbs. and I have maintained that loss now for 7 months. I also started exercising and going to all of the classes I could manage to go to. I found that doing this gave me unbelievable energy and I was able to add even more classes.

I attend “Low Impact” with Tami Johnson who has a great and fun class with excellent music and an emphasis on prevention of back injury. I have also discovered “Power Piloga” taught by Lori Jones. I am new to this class but I think it’s a good fitfor me as I am forever working on my balance. It’s a fun class and Lori is a great instructor.

The best thing that I have done is to start strength training with Terry Martin as my personal trainer. I have redefined my body shape and lost inches and two pant sizes in six months without any additional weight loss. I also found this to be great for my self esteem. This has been a life changing and empowering experience for me. I am now strong and completely unstoppable.

I still go to “Be Lean” as support for anyone who wants to change their lifestyle and eating habits. It really works. Give yourself a great life; you deserve it. You can come as my guest on Tuesdays or Thursdays so come check it out. We have a great group and will welcome and support you.

Thank you Exertec; Linda, Tami, Lori , and everyone who teaches, for all the support I have been given. A special thanks to Terry Martin who would not give up on me and made me accountable when I slacked off.

Life is GREAT and life is FUN.

Living Better, Longer
by Leroy Moore , M.D.

So much is written about anti-aging, weight loss and exercise, it’s almost boring. Yet we are all faced with getting older and hearing about family and friends with various life threatening diseases. We also have personal desires to look better, feel better, and have more energy. This is everyones dream.

So how do we liver better, longer? This will be the theme of these articles. I will discuss some generalities and some new research.

I believe success comes from having a dream, clear goals, and actions that translate our dreams into consistent lifestyle actions. For some that is easy, but for others, it takes real effort.

“Living Better and Longer Dreams” might look like this:

Diet - What do we feed our body’s cells

Relaxation - Adequate time to de-stress and recover.

Exercise - That is consistent with our goals.

Antioxidant - New research shows the importance.

“The amount of antioxidants you maintain in your body is directly proportioned to how long you will live!” Richard Culter, M.D. Director of Anti-Aging Research at the National Institute of heath.

Because there are many books on exercise, etc. I will not spend our time on that topic today. It has become more evident that how we feed our cells determines how they function, how long they function, and how they look (our skin). Again, so much is written on nutrition that we almost take it for granted, yet experts in athletic performance, specialist in aging and skin care are clear regarding specific recommendations. University research centers around the world: UCLA, Stanford University , Beijing , etc. are active in cell and exercise, it’s almost boring. Yet we are all faced with getting older and hearing about family and friends with various life threatening diseases. We also have personal desires to look better, feel better, and have more energy. This is everyones dream.

Knowing our antioxidants score is now done at Exertec using the Biophotonic scanner. Plan to get your personal test score.

Having been a physician and caring for people and their health issues, I am fascinated with the notion that we have sufficient information to prevent many diseases, look better, feel better and live with more energy, longer.

So in the next articles I will discuss things exercise and energy exhaust (free radical damage), antioxidants and longevity (cellular).

Dream dreams, stay tuned and I will see you next time.
Leroy Moore , MD
